Practicing Impulse Control!

Impulse Control.  Is that an oxymoron? Preschoolers are by nature impulsive. While we don't want to squash their enthusiasm, we DO need to keep them safe!

I'm sure I saw this idea somewhere, but I don't know where or when.  I showed the children a pretend traffic light I'd made, and we  discussed the meaning of red, yellow (amber) and green.  We brainstormed how we could use it.  We had lots of ideas involving bikes, scooters and cars.  Then I showed them one with the words, Stop. Think. Go.  We brainstormed ways we could  use these ideas in class and on the playground.

We then used our fine motor skills to cut out the circles and trace the letters in the words.
Add some glue and everyone had their own traffic light!

We then did some "crazy dancing," and when a teacher called "STOP!" Everyone had to freeze AND LOOK AT THE TEACHER!

Lots of fun, and  hopefully, a bit a learning! ;-)
